Commercial Jazz/Funk/Hip Hop
Jazz as a dance form, originates from the vernacular dances of Africans when they were brought to the Americas on slave ships. Beginning in the 1930s and continuing through the 1960s, Jazz dance transformed into a theatre-based performance form of dance that required a highly trained dancer. Throughout its history, jazz dance has developed in parallel to popular music which has meant a constantly evolving form of popular and artistic dance movement. As popular culture changes, so does jazz dance. This means of course, that Jazz covers a wide range of styles reflecting its development over the last 80 years. Our classes encompass Commercial Jazz styles being used in the music industry, Funk and Hip Hop.
